Documentary Film – USA
From March 2015 on, I will be on a six months research trip throughout the USA. I will travel from East Coast to West Coast and back (Southern States March/April/May; Northern States June/July/August. This might still change though. I will present a more concrete route by the end of this year). On my way, I’ll shoot an episodic film documentary about once important and now forgotten places and people and places of myth, that we are mainly knowing as a semantic image but not as the real place. Most of these places are part of our common cultural memory and were embedded and archived into it in one way or the other. Among them will be more known places like the Klondike region (Canada), which was famous for the gold rush, more than 100 years ago or Malibu Beach. Of equal interest are locations and people, that were only in the focus of the media and society for a very short time or were only locally relevant.
As part of my PhD research, I’d also like to visit as many archives of all sorts. From chambers of wonders to the vacuum cleaner museum.
Therefore, if you know any interesting place or person in the US or have relevant contacts, please let me know! They don’t have to be famous or very special, a silent and calming encounter will also be appreciated.
As a side program, I will try to stop by as many art and design academies as possible. If you are or know a decision-maker from any of these institutions and you think a lecture, workshop or simply a meet-up would be beneficial for both parties; again, please get in touch with me.
Thirdly, as part of my PhD research, I am interested in topics such as the archive, collecting, accumulating, storage (cf. The Flood of Things). I am interested in objects and not so much in digital data storage. Again, if you feel like sharing a contact here, it’d highly be appreciated!
